GEWELDIG

Service station in Cuijk damages motorcycle and takes no responsibility. WATCH OUT! My experience in Netherlands with the first official KTM dealer workshop quality: Hello, my name is P Albertins, I am an expat living in Netherlands and I won’t deny, I am a tech guy that likes anything that works for me. I’ve serviced my cars on my own previously, repaired electronic systems by diagnosing faults in the circuits and exchanging components, installed many kinds of new systems in old cars, tuned my old motorcycle, modified its engine and power/torque output etc. That doesn’t mean I’m expert on motorcycles, I know my fair deal, but this story is a little bit more than just that and if anyone has some doubts whether this really happened I have recorded the conversations with employee when I picked my bike up from there. It all starts a couple of months ago, I noticed that my bike isn’t running as well as it should, the bike is KTM RC390 and it has an electric fan for the radiator that engages when the bikes temperature gets above certain limit, and I noticed that it’s starting to engage more often and sometimes doesn’t disengage even if I’m riding 130km/h on a highway (cooling effect of wind is even stronger than the effect of fan). Then one morning I couldn’t start my bike anymore, I was late for work so I decided to send a video of it to my boss to show that I’ll be late, I started recording and suddenly the bike started (smh?). But still, I knew I have a problem. I went online and decided to look up some service stations as my bike is still under warranty and I can’t really repair it on my own without voiding it. I came across JTX Racing Cuijk, it was the closest one to me, it was an official KTM dealer and also warranty repair was available with them. I checked couple of reviews and I couldn’t find anything really concerning about them so I called them and scheduled an appointment. When I arrived at the service station I explained my situation: I’m getting overheating problems, my bike sometimes refuses to start and I had a couple of error codes to show them in pictures that I took with my phone. I also explained to them that when I arrived at Netherlands on my third day the bike got stolen, but was found by Police (thanks to the police of Maastricht) in a shed with the ignition destroyed, however I was still managing to start it with a screwdriver and I did buy couple extra locks so it wasn’t so concerning to me as even if somebody really wanted he could start the bike but couldn’t roll away due to the most expensive lock from ABUS that I was able to find, the thickest chain from ABUS and a loud disk brake lock. I explained that currently I’m low on my budget so I don’t want to repair the lock and that all I want is to have the periodic service done, warranty repair for whatever is wrong with the engine and if there’s any extra expenses they have to call me and inform me before doing anything. I gave them the keys for the disc lock (that remained with the bike), my FOB unit from my alarm and of course the keys of my bike (I was still using them so I can refuel and open the tiny trunk whenever necessary) and also the screwdriver that I was using to start it. I placed everything in the documents map that I got with the bike and it contained all the manuals and warranty booklets etc. and gave it to them. It seemed all fine, days passed, I was looking forward to getting my bike back and hyped, but then one day I received a call from an employee – “Do you have the bike keys with you?” asked the employee. I was shocked, I never expected a question like that. I explained to them that I left my keys with them and when I left they were still in the documents folder together with the key fob of the alarm. Then the weird part came, he asked the same question again and after explaining for the second time that they should be in the folder he said that he’s going to look around for them. This call seemed weird to me but then I thought, well we’re all human and humans make mistakes, maybe he’s just double checking if the key’s with me. Couple weeks passed and it all went south quick, I received another call from them where they stated, they are unable to fix the bike without repairing the lock as the gas tanks locking system was destroyed due to the lack of the key that they don’t have, so they had to brake the lock to remove the gas tank. I quickly figured – well, it’s broken already, what other choices are left for me here? I again told them that the key actually was with them all the time, but they didn’t seem interested about that. All they cared about is that they make sure to call me about this extra expense. I asked them then how much is this going to cost me extra to what he replied that it’s 600 euros total, which is a nice 300-400Eur more than I expected. I asked them – what other choices do I have, to what I received silence as an answer. So I said, well of course, if you can’t do anything else than that go ahead and do it as I need my bike in a running condition after all. Also, they said that the engines gasket was broken and replaced and that was the original cause for the problems on the engine (although any mechanic knows that a gasket newer is a root cause of any problems if installed correctly and the bike was bought new from a dealer). Days passed as I was patiently waiting for my bike and now also the bill that’s going to come with it. After some time, I got a little bit impatient and called them to ask again, when’s the bike ready to which he replied that it’s fixed now but they have to go and test the bike before they can give it back to me so I should wait until the next week. Finally, I receive the call that I can go and collect the bike and so the next morning I take all my gear, get in a train to Cuijk and prepare for an unpleasant situation. I come to the desk and the employee already recognizes me, he says: “You’re here for the RC right? This is the key already” he says and hands me the key, “Okay, Yeah, and I’ve got loads of questions about it, honestly” I reply. I ask them for the documents folder, my helmet and everything else I gave them with the bike. He goes away searching for it and couple of seconds until he’s back. I open it up and explain them that they were calling me about the bikes key which was inside of this folder and tell him the whole story about the lock, to what he immediately replies “I wasn’t here, I was on the holiday” and when I asked him that I need to know why was it done then to what he replies about me being called about the key. Once again I tell him that I told them where the key is and that it never was with me, about them asking the same question multiple times and getting the same answer. He says that he’s going to contact the other guy, who made contact with me. In the meantime, I check if any documents have been signed and if everything is here, I notice that nothing has been signed and even the key fob is missing from the bike. After few minutes he comes back, tells me that the employee is not here but the mechanic is, that he’s going to go ask him where the keys are and I add to that that the key fob is missing and I definitely need that back as well. He goes off searching again for quite some while and it really takes around 20-25min. In the meantime, I come up with an idea that I can arm my motorcycles alarm and then he can go and find the key fob by listening where it’s ringing. I start to arm the bike where I have to input a pin with a single button and even though I didn’t arm it he magically finds the key in less than two minutes. And BINGO! There’s the keys as well. Furthermore, in the meanwhile he lost the original key but found it afterwards. I asked them to sign all the paperwork that states the most important thing: “The service was carried out only with original parts and is in specification”. So I explain him the situation – they had the key, they had everything, they had no reason to brake the lock and they still did it and he admits it. He again tells me that he doesn’t know anything. So the fool I am, scammed by people that doesn’t even care that I uncovered they’re scam, I tell them farewells and plan to never return again. But it wasn’t for long, when I went outside to start my bike, it starts, then stalls and then simply dies. The starter doesn’t turn so I understand the problem is electrical and I need to go back. Employee calls the mechanic to come and take a look and after a while he diagnoses it as a battery issue. He swaps the batteries and it runs ok, so I decide to buy it – again, not too many options to choose from. To me this also seems a bit fishy as the bike is one year old, kept in a garage daily and during winter the battery lays on my desk at home. Then when I’m paying for the battery I find the employee who talked with me, the employee who was on holiday and not working today, but it’s enough for me and I’m late to work already. Finally I’m off to home. It was cold outside so I didn’t ride the bike for some while and then a sunny day appeared so I decided that it’s my chance to go for a spin. I hop on the bike, get ready start it and suddenly after a minute it stalls. My first thought, well – maybe just a bad coincidence, I drive to a gas tank and it stalls again. What the hell? Now it’s stalling every few seconds and the idle is really rough. I wasn’t far from home so I immediately ride back to check what’s wrong and I see that the oil level is between the lines. Seems fine, right? Especially non-technical person would just assume it’s ok, but I know, the bike is standing on the side stand and it should be nowhere close to it, I lift the bike in upright position and see what I expected, the window is completely covered, there’s foam forming in the oil and to me it looks like they’re already looking forward to changing another gasket for me. You be the judge, if you want to go there, but JTX Racing Cuijk – the worst service of anything.
